Fizzy Word Building

We just recently started learning word formation, i.e. M-A-T is Mat and so on. He got the concept, but it wasn't as exciting as learning sight words (he ie *obsessed* with the 7 sight words he knows!). So I brought out the big guns, his *favorite* baking soda and vinegar!

Material Reqd: alphabet cutters, baking soda, vinegar, spray bottle, paints and a tray.

First we poured in the vinegar in a spray bottle, and added a bit of color in it. Then I brought out the cutters, only the specific alphabets we reqd for "at" words (else he would've insisted on something else!). And handed him the baking soda.

He knew what was to be done, since we'd done the same activity for sight words. He sprinkled some baking soda in the cutters after forming AT, MAT, HAT and so on, then sprayed vinegar to create the fizzy effect!

I had to wash off the tray a coupla times in between words, since I had only one piece of A & T. but that took only a minute or so.

In all an interesting way to combine fizzy science with early literacy!
