The Original Montessori Color Tablets have 9 colors in 7
different shades that are to be arranged by children from darkest to lightest
or vice versa. For further details you may click here. I made them because they
seemed fun to paint! I don’t remember doing any painting in school and I’m
thoroughly enjoying this new interest in my life!

I used Jenga Junior blocks (two boxes) inspired by DIY Corporate Mom. I made these BEFORE I began letting my tiny tot paint at home. In retrospect, it would’ve been interesting to have him join me!
The easiest color was Purple as it could be mixed into 7 distinctive shades by adding white. And Grey, as I could mix in black to get a dark grey. The worse was Red. I didn’t understand how to get a ‘dark red’ without turning it Maroon and a ‘light red’ without turning it Pink. Maybe that’s what it will teach him. The light colors such as Yellow and Pink were also challenging to be painted into 7 distinctive shades.
So although I still think that there are two blocks in
each color that look eerily similar, my kid got it right more or less. But I’ve
given these tablets to him only once so maybe that was a coincidence!
