Kids are crazy obsessed with stones! If they are at the playground, they spend quality time picking stones to take home. They even remember exactly which one is theirs! So I had to include stone painting in one of our Art Studio Sessions too!
Although my kid had an enviable collection of blackish/greyish stones, I pulled out some white pebbles I was dying to be done with.
The kids poured a couple of colors in the mixing bowl and turned it into a dirty greyish-green. This is what they did. yup. all the gorgeous blues and red and purples aside, THIS is what they loved!
They dipped stones one by one with tongs and completely immersed each in the gooey color. Then picked it out again with tongs and set it on a tray to dry. Excellent fine motor practice with something they LOO…OVE!
The next day they collected more stone AND some leaf strings from two christmas trees (The Araucaria Plant) in our compound. Nice, dried up beautiful brown strings!
and over a period of 3 days, my 3 year old painted a big giant heap of it! And some more stones too!
Then painted his leg too! Only one leg since he had a hurt on the other!

DeleteThis is really cool. We have the Norfolk Pines all all over the park across the bay. I lead a group of five year olds, this is a perfect craft.
ReplyDeleteYes it is perfect cuz easy, cheap and keeps kids busy for long! Plus we used these painted strings for other activities later on, e.g. as trees for his cardboard house, antennae for butterfly crafts and so on!
