Toddler Poke & Peg Activities

One of the biggest challenges of having a kid is KEEPING HIM BUSY. I wish he was the kind who would just play for hours on his own, or at least ONE damn hour a day with his toys, but that fantasy is a far cry from reality. There are a million articles on being a Helicopter Mom, but what about Helicopter Children?? Children who hover and just don't leave you alone for more then ten minutes at a time! Sigh!

The Practical Mom: Toddler Poke & Peg Activities

These are a few DIY Poke & Peg activities that would keep him busy, not for an hour but for at least a while when he was a toddler (they are also a good fine motor skill practice).

Match the color and peg:
I purchased the pegs and painted a white cardboard strip for corresponding colors.

Count and peg:
I purchased the pegs and pasted circle shaped felt paper on strips of white cardboard sheets.

Poke the playdoh shape / alphabet / number:
I helped him roll playdoh into 'caterpillars' and form shape/ while he poked colorful toothpicks on each of them.

Until later! Stay in touch!

  7. Thanks for all your lovely comments! When my kid was a little over 1, my parents would give him clips to peg the rim of a pan! It was such a cute age- no need for toys or DIY anything! only pots, pans, mugs and buckets full of water were enough to keep him busy!
