Sticks & Dots Printable Game {Practical Mondays #43}

The days are TOO hot and WAY TOO long. (Imagine my 5 year old falls off to sleep at the same time as I do?). Hot & long days demand some creativity to keep kids busy! Especially if Snakes & Ladders & Uno have bored you out of your mind. So gather whatever you have, and invent challenges! Cotton swabs, craft sticks, magnetic dots from some other game, tubes, styrofoam balls, pipes, cubes, dice, legos, stickers, sticks; you can make simple pattern cards with coloured pens and some paper.

Stuff needed to play

  • Coloured craft sticks
  • Coloured dots (or whatever you have!)
  • DIY pattern cards (I made sets using 4/5/6 sticks/dots in each)

Rules & How

  • Set the timer (1 minute for 4 stick cards & 1.5 minutes for 5 & 6 stick ones) and have each player pick one card
  • They need to collect the corresponding coloured sticks & dots and make the pattern, before the timer goes off!
  • The one to finish first gets 10 points
  • The others get 5 points if they finish before the timer goes off
  • After all cards are exhausted, the player with maximum points wins!

fits in a tiny box (or a ziploc bag!)

My guinea pigs thoroughly enjoyed the game and the only problem was that the cards finished too soon! Will prepare a larger set for the next round (Have made 36 cards in the printable!). In case you're wondering where we got the dots from, it was from the Play Panda Magnetic Puzzle gifted to us on christmas! They're adorable and come in triangles & squares too.

  1. Thank you for hosting each week! My son looks at the map on our blog, follows comments and visits other sites with me. It's so fun to see him learning about geography and becoming interested in learning new things because he sees other children in a/your post!!

  6. Great games, I had something like this but it was fuzzy shapes that you had to make into little pictures. #MarvMondays
