Marble Run +11 more ways to KEEP KIDS BUSY with Cardboard Crap (Practical Mondays #34)

Don’t let those beautiful Pinterest pictures depress you! They’re like airbrushed Victoria Secret models, LOL. But let me tell you why you should use all your non-craftiness to turn cardboard crap into ‘toys’. Other than that it’s free and, *AND*…. YOU CAN TRASH IT AFTER A WEEK.

Kids understand the science behind constructing something against readymade toys Making toys is 5 minutes spent well:  painting, cutting, pasting. And the time spent playing with your child is never wasted.

Practical Mom: Marble Run +11 other ways to KEEP KIDS BUSY with Cardboard Crap

Here’s a Cereal Box Marble Run, which takes 5 minutes to make, an hour to dry. It’s ‘different’ from the toy store marble run he has. Didn’t even paint it and is still a new ‘toy’ altogether- go figure!

We’ve made a dozen Ramps & Tracks.

A 3 box castle, Octopi, Magnet Paint, Butterflies, crowns and what not.

  1. We absolutely love to make things with odds and ends from around the house. We call them our upcyling crafts and sculptures. :)

  2. We used to paint boxes and make really big towers or Thomas the Tank Engine (that were bigger than the child) and then just repaint them into something else a few days later. The painting would take up a few hours. It didn't really matter what they turned into - it was the painting and thinking about how to do it that mattered....

    1. Best times ever! We still have large cardboard boxes around that aren't to be thrown since he does god knows what with them!

  3. These look like fun projects. We've made marble runs using paper plate rims and toilet paper tubes before.

  6. Love the finished castle, it's so important to allow children to explore their imagination. Paint a few simple things like empty boxes are great :)

  9. These look so fun! I am not great at making crafts but these look like things I can do with my youngest. I love the butterfly ones. I like making things out of the bits and pieces we have around in the house. Thanks for sharing with #bigpinklink

  12. Your marble run looks fab :-) I am a big fan of getting out cardboard packaging and just letting the little one construct whatever comes to mind. Thank you for sharing with the #DreamTeam

  13. Some wonderful ideas and great upcycling. these are the kind of crafts the kids on holiday adore and they are all so easy and cheap to create. I'm pinning and adding musical pumpkins to this year's Halloween party here on the farm. I usually do musical statues and bumps so this will make a festive change.

  14. This is such a great resource that you are providing and you give it away for free. I love seeing websites that understand the value of providing a quality resource for free. It is the old what goes around comes around routine. Toddlers
