Take a look at this 3 minute video.
(It is actually an advertisement by a butter company. The butter by itself has nothing to do with the ad, except for being used several times during!)
(It's also Indian- but no one's actually saying anything - so go ahead, watch it!)
Watch it till the end!

So.....? Was your first thought to show it to your children? (after tearing up a little?)
Mine too!! Glad we think alike.
My 4 year old *kinna* *sorta* gets ready on his own but he definately squeezes his own orange juice. Once a few kids had come over for a play date and he insisted on squeezing *all* oranges for all of us. Although it was the electric one, it did take a while! But we all patiently waited for him to finish! There are moments like these that make me proud and then there are moments that make me wonder whether it's high time I insisted on him doing some (other) stuff himself. Nonetheless, I *always* follow Maria Montessori's principle:
"Never help a child with a task at which he feels he can succeed"

DeleteGreat reminder! With 4 little boys & a house to take care of, I can sometimes get so focused on getting.things.done that I forget about the larger things I'm trying to accomplish ;)
ReplyDeleteThat's so true! esp when we're in a rush, for e.g. in the mornings I simply don't have the time to wait and watch him put on his own shoes! Thanks for stopping by Julie:)
DeleteSigh, I should probably start letting go of some of these things, but it just becomes a habit:)

DeleteWe try to have our tot do as much for himself as possible. At the moment our big challenge is encouraging a little freedom and independence at the park. It's quite nerve racking for nervous mummies at times :-)
